The research team acts on scientific and innovative studies and projects related to building envelope and cladding systems for complex architectures and specific applications. The activity is directed to analyze and to develop studies on morpho-typological, functional and constructive systems regarding the use of new planning and design strategies and methodologies to support architects, producers and builders within the frame of the advanced contemporary architectural scenario. The character of acting of the team sustains a new ethical approach for the architectural and engineering work, based on academic responsibility and polytechnic culture, directed to the scientific and correctness. The research team is focused on:

  • The activity of technology watch, intended as the ongoing analysis and knowledge about the experimental studies and applications
  • The activity of concept design, developed in collaboration and supporting architects, engineers and producers during the phases of conception and preliminary development of the building envelope/cladding systems
  • The activity of heuristic and technical hand drawing
  • The activity of project reworking and optimization, according to reduction of costs, the analysis of standard solutions
  • The activity of technical consulting or direct application for the executive design and for the study/development of technical drawings and details
  • The activity of modelling (3D) of building envelope/cladding systems, components and technical interfaces

The activity of topology optimization, intended as the specific conception of systems, technical elements, technical interfaces and junction devices (not only bi-dimensional, but three-dimensional) of building envelope/cladding according to:

The methodology aimed at shaping the geometric, structural, and physical constitution related to the expected performance, with respect to feasibility constraints and in conjunction with innovative manufacturing practices, which can provide customized solutions

The digitalization and virtual composition (morpho-typological, performance oriented, physical and aggregative) processes and executive simulation of the project

The practice of interoperability between structural, thermal and/or environmental modeling, aiming at predicting the performance assessment of technical systems

The simulation and predicting anticipation methods of design solutions in order to assess procedures and economic aspects, to “optimize” production (reducing the amount of material employed, considered with respect to the effective functional needs) thus reducing polluting emissions and the use of energy supply

The activity of collaboration with specific high-technological “craftsmen”, producers and builders

The activity of technical direction/consultant/supervisor and control for constructive and building phases on site
